John Legend Opens Up About Pal Kanye West & Reveals How He Knew Chrissy Teigen Was ‘The One’
John Legend and his fiance Chrissy Teigen sat down with Oprah On Oprah’s Next Chapter on Sunday night (June 9) to chat about their relationship, those infidelity rumors and their famous friend Kanye West.
So what made him propose to the swimsuit model? Well after dating for 7 years, John says it was just time to put a ring on it.
“I don’t think it was one particular moment but I knew I loved her, I knew I could see myself living with her and spending time with her forever, I knew I could envision us having kids together and I felt like it was time to propose,” he explained. “She didn’t pressure me, she didn’t say it’s time to put a ring on it. I felt like it was time for us to get married.”
He also shared how airport security almost ruined his surprise proposal during a trip to the Maldives!
But one of the most moving moments was when he talked about his friendship with Kanye West and how the public only sees one side of the talented rapper.
“A lot of who he is in public is who he is. He’s not afraid to tell the truth, he’s bold. Obviously we have very different personalities but he’s a genius creatively and the public can see that through his art and through his work. You’ve heard him talk about the celebrity aspect of his life and the fame and he acknowledges that he’s in this world – he knows it but he’s also conflicted about it and honestly a lot of who he is in public is who he is in private. But I think people don’t always see the generous side of him, people don’t see the guy who’s been working with me and contributing to my work for over ten years – they don’t necessarily see all of that in public and I see that.”
