Rummenigge: €250m for Messi is absurd

Rummenigge: €250m for Messi is absurd

The Bayern supremo has insisted that they have no plans to make a move for the prolific attacker and believes Barca would never sell their star player
Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has rulBayern ed out a move for Barcelona attacker Lionel Messias he believes the Argentina international would be too expensive for the Champions League holders.

A recent report from Spain suggested that Bayern were ready to meet the 26-year-old's €250 million exit clause, with the club's honourary president Franz Beckenbauer further fuelling speculation last week with his comments that Messi would be a good signing for the Bundesliga champions.

However, Rummenigge has now made it clear that the Bavarians have no intention of splashing the cash on the prolific attacker.

"Messi? We are talking about figures here that are simply absurd, a transfer fee that is even higher than what we spent on Javi Martinez. We won't go there," Rummenigge told Sky90.

"Plus I know Sandro Rosell. Barcelona would never sell Messi. He is a saint at Barcelona and they will not sell him.

"And I think it would be in Messi's best interest to stay at Barcelona. He fits in perfectly there."

The attacker has a contract with Barca until June 2018.

Ronaldo deserves Ballon d'Or too - Ribery

Ronaldo deserves Ballon d'Or too - Ribery

Munich star Franck Ribery has claimed that both he and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo are worthy winners of the 2013 Ballon d'Or.

The duo are considered the frontrunners for the award as Lionel Messi, who has won the last four editions of the prize, has endured an injury-ravaged calendar year.

Ribery has spoken of his respect for Ronaldo, but feels that his part in Bayern's treble win could see him pip the 28-year-old Portuguese to the title.

"We all know that Cristiano Ronaldo is a super footballer. Naturally, he deserves to win it too," the France international told Kicker.

"However, it's a vote based on a whole year and I also have a case for it. People will make the right choice. I'm quite relaxed."

Meanwhile, Barcelona legend Hristo Stoichov, who won the award in 1994, has backed Ribery to see off the competition.

"This year, my view is that Messi has missed a lot of matches due to several injuries," he told RMC.

"I personally believe that Ribery will win. He had a great season with Bayern and did spectacular things and he negotiated World Cup qualification with France."

Ronaldo: I want to retire at Real Madrid

Ronaldo: I want to retire at Real Madrid
The Portugal international says that he could not be happier with Los Blancos and would like to see out his playing days in the Spanish capital
Ronaldo insists he has no intention of leaving Real Madrid, admitting that he is considering finishing his career at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 28-year-old attacker was briefly linked with a return to Manchester United earlier this year, after stating that he was not happy in the Spanish capital, but eventually opted to sign a new deal with Los Blancos until June 2018.

Ronaldo does not regret that decision one bit, explaining that he is not in the least bit interested in leaving Madrid.

"Right now, I feel as though I want to finish my career here because I'm very happy," the Portugal international told Cope.

"I love living in Madrid, playing at the best club in the world and I can't ask for more. When things are good, when you're settled and motivated to do well, you worry less about the future.

"I feel loved here. This is my fifth season at Real. It's hard to reach the people at the Bernabeu to start with.

"The truth is that I didn't feel as though I had found my place on the field in the first few years. But then I realised that maybe it was me who was wrong.

"Now I'm 100 per cent happy. It's like a dream every time I go to the Bernabeu, the people really love me. I want to stay here for many years to come and see out my contract, there's no other club like Real."

Ronaldo has made over 200 official appearances for Madrid since joining them from United in the summer of 2009.

Messi: I'll be back to normal soon

Messi: I'll be back to normal soon
The Barcelona talisman assured fans that he would be back to fitness in the near future and backed Argentina to make a strong challenge for the World Cup next summer
Barcelona's Lionel Messi is confident that he will be back firing on all cylinders upon his return from a thigh injury that is set to keep him sidelined until 2014.
The Argentine superstar was ruled out for the rest of 2013 with a hamstring tear – his fourth muscular injury of the calendar year – but pledged to remain calm throughout the process, despite itching to get back to action.
“I’m calm because I know this is a normal injury but it’s hard to be out of the field until January,” he said to the Perros de la Calle programme on Metro. “However, I know that I’ll return and I’ll play as usual.”
With the World Cup less than eight months away, Messi talked up Argentina’s chances of taking the spoils in Brazil, where he feels that the team is due for a reversal in fortunes after disappointments in their last few outings in major international tournaments.
“The candidates [for the 2014 World Cup] are always the same: Germany, Brazil, Spain, France, despite the play-off, and Argentina too, obviously,” he continued.
“Argentina are always a candidate, despite how it reaches the World Cup and moreover now with the makeup of the team. We have time until the World Cup begins and I think we’ll improve and we’ll grow up as a team.”
“We’ve played the Copa America [2011] and World Cups [2006, 2010] without reaching the objectives we wanted to, and qualification for South Africa [in 2010] was really hard for us.
“However, this World Cup qualification has been really different and we’ve qualified before the end of the competition. That brought people close to the team.”

Vincent Enyeama named Ligue 1 player of the month

Vincent Enyeama is best player of the French Ligue 1 during the month of October
The Nigeria goalkeeper has been recompensed for his outstanding performance at Lille since his promotion to first choice keeper
Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has won the French Ligue 1 player of the month award for October, besting Paris Saint Germain stars Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani to clinch the periodic accolade for outstanding performance in the premier division.
The 31-year-old, who joined the French outfit from Israel’s Hapoel Tel Aviv in 2011, was promoted to first choice goalkeeper this season and has been fantastic in goal since the beginning of the campaign, keeping a clean sheet across 675 minutes already.
Enyeama raked 71% of the votes far ahead of Ibrahimovic, who scored 19% and Cavani, 10%. He will receive his trophy on Sunday before his side’s clash with Toulouse in match day 14.
The former Enyimba guardian also figures on the Confederation of African Football's (Caf’s) list of nominees for the 2013 African Footballer of the Year award.

Inside Erik Lamela's troubled start to life at Tottenham

Inside Erik Lamela's troubled start to life at Tottenham
The Argentine prodigy has been working hard to integrate with the rest of the Spurs squad, and now feels he is capable of belatedly making his mark at White Hart Lane

Erik Lamela spent the international break in comfortable surroundings, conversing freely in his native Spanish with the rest of the Argentina squad over a pot of mate.

The Tottenham midfielder played in the second of his country's two games in the United States, replacing Sergio Aguero late on in the 2-0 victory over Bosnia in St Louis on Monday.

Back in the country Lamela now calls home, he will hope to line up against his international team-mate on Sunday as Spurs take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

If selected by Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas, it would be Lamela’s first Premier League start for the club since his £30 million (€36m) summer transfer from Roma following a slow settling in period in north London.

THE GOOD & THE BAD
PLAYER RATING v ZENIT (OCT 3)

A hit-and-miss performance from the stylish midfielder. Popped up in all areas of the pitch, showing good touches, but his passing was often loose.
PLAYER RATING v SHERIFF (NOV 7)

The best player on the pitch. Finally beginning to show his worth at Spurs and was a constant threat from wide, sweeping home the opening goal from 12 yards before dazzling his way past three defenders and winning a penalty.
Lamela arrived for a club-record fee and with a big reputation, having scored 15 goals in Serie A last term. Before he had even kicked a ball in England, the comparisons with the man he had replaced at Spurs, Gareth Bale, were flying around.

Yet while Bale has already found his feet at Real Madrid, the on- and off-pitch integration has not been so simple for Lamela at White Hart Lane.

His chances have so far been limited to starts in Capital One Cup and Europa League games, in no small part due to the unexpected rise of Andros Townsend, another left-footed player who operates mainly on the right wing.

Lamela scored his first goal for Spurs in an eye-catching man-of-the-match performance in the Europa League win over Sheriff earlier this month, only to find himself back on the bench as an unused substitute in the defeat to Newcastle three days later.

The 21-year-old is starting to grow frustrated with his lack of opportunities in the league as he feels he is ready to make his mark. He has told manager Villas-Boas - a fluent Spanish speaker - as much in recent weeks.

The fact that Lamela is pushing for a place in the side can only be a good sign for Villas-Boas, especially with playmaker Christian Eriksen out with an ankle injury sustained on international duty with Denmark.

Lamela’s personality is starting to develop around the training ground. He is certainly more comfortable than the young man who arrived in September unable to speak a single word of English and looking scared to death when he made his debut as a substitute in the north London derby defeat to Arsenal.

Daily English lessons with his brother should help him to settle more quickly in a dressing room in which Roberto Soldado is the only other native Spanish speaker - and Lamela has accepted that grasping the language is a matter of priority.

“I’ll work hard in training and I want to improve my language - that’s one of my main targets,” he said. “It’s essential to be able to communicate in English, to talk to my team-mates and then in my personal life outside the football.”

Tottenham have been keen to help Lamela settle in London, and the improvement in both his mood and confidence has been noted since his family moved to the city at the end of October, with his girlfriend Sofia and brother Brian almost ever-present companions.

Lamela has genuine faith in his own ability. In an interview in October, he said he would “make the difference” for Spurs. The team could do with the former River Plate man making an impact now to improve an attack that has scored just nine goals in 11 league matches.

It has understandably taken him time to settle in and it’s nothing new for Lamela when you consider he only scored four league goals in his first season with Roma before starring in the Italian capital in his second campaign.

With Tottenham badly missing Bale and lacking players with the guile to combine with Soldado, now is the time for Lamela to make himself at home in the team’s starting XI.

Kurupt Says Tha Dogg Pound's "New York, New York" Was Not A Diss Song

Kurupt Says Tha Dogg Pound's "New York, New York" Was Not A Diss Song
Kurupt says that Tha Dogg Pound's "New York, New York" song was a tribute to New York and that the tenor of the video changed once they were shot at in New York City.
Even though Tha Dogg Pound’s “New York, New York” was viewed by many Rap fans as a diss of New York,Kurupt says that the 1995 song started out as a tribute to the birthplace of Hip Hop culture.
“It wasn’t even going after New York,” Kurupt says during an interview with xxlmag.com. “It wasn’t a diss record. It really wasn’t. ‘New York, New York’ was a record that we made in dedication to New York. We really felt that New York created Hip Hop. New York created battle rap and the whole ball of wax so what I did was a battle rap on this beat DJ Pooh did.”
The song almost didn’t come to fruition, though, Kurupt says to xxlmag.com, because DJ Pooh had given the instrumental to The Notorious B.I.G. for a St. Ides commercial. But since the music was only used for a commercial, Tha Dogg Pound made the song nonetheless.
“Snoop [Dogg] came in the studio when I was laying my second verse,” Kurupt says to xxlmag.com. “I laid the first verse in one day and then the next day I laid the second verse. And then when I laid the second verse Snoop came through and he came in and he just got finished listening to Melle Mel, Grand Master Flash & The Furious Five. He came in saying ‘New York, New York. Big city of dreams and everything in New York ain’t always what it seems. You might get fooled when you come from out of town but I’m down by law and know my way around.’ He was singing the Melle Mel chorus [from Grand Master Flash & The Furious Five’s ‘New York New York’]. He was singing the chorus and we was like, ‘That’s shit’s perfect. It fits perfect.’”
It was during the so-called East Coast-West Coast rivalry when Tha Dogg Pound went to New York to film the video for “New York, New York.” Snow was falling and the crew was filmed having fun.
“We wanted Nas and everybody from New York to be in the video,” Kurupt says. “It was a dedication to New York, but then we got shot at it while we were shooting it. New York felt we were disrespecting them. [Laughs] The New Yorkers wasn’t going for it. They was like, ‘Oh, no. You ain’t gonna shoot this shit out here dissing us.’ They shot at us the next day, so I mean after they shot at us, we went back home and Snoop was like, ‘Man, fuck that.’ Then we shot the other part of the video where we started kicking everything the fuck over. That’s why we started kicking things over because we got shot at it.”
