With Man City thumping Norwich 7-0 on the weekend, it was a little odd to see there were seven different goal scorers. This shows that scoring multiple-goals in games isn’t really an easy task and that hat tricks are especially hard to come by. In fact, only five players have ever managed to score consecutive hat tricks in the top flight of English football. These are the five.
5. Didier Drogba - Chelsea
Chelsea hero Didier Drogba, an Ivory Coast international striker, pumped three goals behind Wigan’s keeper on the last day of the season back in 2009/10. He didn’t cool down over the summer as he christened the 2010/11 season the same way, with a hat trick, when Chelsea thumped West Brom by a score of 6-0.
4. Les Ferdinand - Queens Park Rangers
Les
Ferdinand was one of the best goal scorers England has ever produced. He scored
goals for club and country and was the first Premier League player to score two
hat tricks in a row. He banged home three goals when QPR beat Nottingham Forest
back in April of 1993 and repeated the feat just 48 hours later in a 5-3 victory
against Everton.
3. Ian Wright - Arsenal
Ian Wright was another underrated striker, especially when playing for England. He scored goals galore for Arsenal during his career and six of them came over a two-game span back in March of 1994. He managed to bag a trio of goals in a 4-0 shutout over Southampton straight after he had grabbed a hat trick in a 5-1 win over Ipswich Town the week before.
2. Thierry Henry - Arsenal
The Gunners have been blessed with some excellent goal scorers over the years and French international Thierry Henry was one of the best of them. This Arsenal legend managed three goals in a 4-2 win over Liverpool back in April of 2004 and then followed it up with four goals in a 5-0 drubbing of Leeds.
1. Wayne Rooney - Man United
The most recent player to score consecutive hat tricks in the Premier League is Man United’s English international striker Wayne Rooney. He drilled three goals against Arsenal at Old Trafford in late August of 2011 in an 8-2 win and added three more against Bolton in an away win of 5-0 a couple of weeks later.
